Wednesday trad session
at McPhail's · Lawrence Street, Drogheda, Co. Louth
Mid-week session that's been Drogheda's best-kept trad secret. Wednesday nights draw the players who don't want the weekend crowd.
Ireland's smallest county by area has two substantial towns — Drogheda and Dundalk — and both have active session scenes that reflect the county's position on the ancient corridor between Ulster and Leinster.
Louth has always been a crossing point. The Cooley Mountains separate Dundalk from South Armagh, and the fiddle styles from both sides of the border show up in the local sessions. Drogheda draws musicians from Meath and Monaghan as well — the sessions here often have a surprising breadth of tradition.
