Sunday afternoon trad
at Tigh Coili · Mainguard Street, Co. Galway
Two-hour set Sunday afternoons. The lock-in regulars say it's the best in the city since 2019.
Galway city has five pubs that could each claim to be the best traditional music venue in Ireland — and the argument would be genuine. Tigh Coili, The Crane Bar, Taaffes, Monroe's, and Tigh Neachtain together make up a trad circuit that no other city in Ireland can match.
The city's trad scene is concentrated on a few streets in the west side — Mainguard Street, Shop Street, and Sea Road — where you can walk between three sessions in ten minutes. Monroe's Tuesday ceili is the session that visitors discover and return for annually. The Crane Bar upstairs room is the one musicians talk about when they think no tourists are listening.
